The Story Behind the Norfolk Olive Tree Company |

Meet the Smiths: The Passionate people Behind Norfolk Olive Tree Company

Paul Smith, co-owner of the Norfolk Olive Tree Company, is a passionate arborist with two decades of experience. Paul’s dedication to his craft and his exceptional knowledge of olive trees show his love for all things green. With deep-rooted passion and expertise, Paul helps gardeners find the perfect olive tree for their spaces. He guides to ensure olive trees thrive in the UK, showcasing his commitment to tree care and gardening.

A life dedicated to olive trees

For over ten years, Paul has dedicated himself to cultivating olive trees in the UK. This task requires not only patience and knowledge but also a deep love for these resilient and elegant trees. Yet, his efforts extend beyond mere cultivation; he meticulously selects and imports olive trees from Valencia and Catalonia. Each tree he handpicks possesses its own unique architectural beauty and form. Paul’s careful selection reflects his discerning eye and unwavering commitment to quality, establishing the Norfolk Olive Tree Company as a recognised and esteemed provider of exquisite olive trees.

The perfect duo

Paul’s partner, Antonia Smith, adds her unique flair to their enterprise. Collaboratively, they established the Courtyard Garden Centre and Cafe, a beloved local spot highlighted by Norfolk Magazine. However, Antonia’s versatility extends beyond the garden centre – she’s a former Can Can dancer turned singer with ‘Girl Dubois.’ Making a transition from entertainment to olives, Antonia’s profound connection to olive trees is evident.

During her twenties in the Mediterranean, she found solace in their resilience and simplicity. At present, she takes pleasure in every facet of olive trees and exotic plants, generously sharing her knowledge through BBC Good Food Guide talks and blogs. Antonia’s recipes are highly valued by olive aficionados, serving as a trustworthy reference for anyone seeking olive inspiration!

A family affair

The couple were overjoyed when their son Luca joined them in the family business, qualifying in arboriculture he has now they believe pruned more trees than he’s had hot dinners! He keeps the trees in shape and his parents in order!

How it all began

The Smiths’ love affair with olive trees began with a remarkable centenarian tree, a symbol of endurance and beauty. In 2013, this tree blanketed in snow, stood strong against the elements, embodying the essence of resilience that Paul and Antonia admire. And their business is a testament to their shared passion for these magnificent trees. Together, they continue to inspire and educate others, nurturing a love for olive trees that extends far beyond their garden.

Now their award -winning olive trees adorn gardens and homes across the UK.
