Large Dasylirion Longissimum for sale

Dasylirion Longissimum for sale Also known as Mexican grass Tree. Double headed specimen.

The Mexican grass tree is a sensational, rare and highly sought-after plant native to the Chihuahuan Desert and other xeric habitats in North eastern Mexico. It also goes by the unusual names Dasylirion longissimum and toothless sotol. You might not be surprised to find out that this dramatic plantis closely related to the Yucca and Agave plant. They have thin, grass-like olive green foliage and white bell-shaped flowers that flourish quite beautifully in summer.

About the Mexican Grass tree

The sensational Mexican grass tree is a slow growing evergreen that’s resistant to drought and extreme weather conditions. Although familiar on Mexican landscapes and deserts, surprisingly it can thrive on UK soil. The leaves radiate symmetrically out of a large woody trunk that can slowly but eventually grow up to 15 feet (4.5 m) tall. It will also spread aprox 1.5m after 10-20 years a bit of a slow burner. Often, this wonderful tree is planted in large containers and displayed in courtyards and Mediterranean style gardens.

Caring for your tree

It’s not surprising this tree loves full sun, having originated in tropical Mexico but they do grow faster if watered well. When watering be careful not to water the crown as this part of the tree tends to rot easily. Ideally, they should be planted or placed in a sunny, well drained area. When the flowers bloom in summer months, try to remove dried spent flowers when possible. You can also prune out dried or yellow lower leaves anytime of the year. Although they thrive in the sun, they can be grown with some shade and humidity. If your tree is in a container then make sure to move it inside when the frost hits. These top tips will help keep your Mexican grass tree look fabulous all year round
