The Hornbeam or ’Carpinus betulus’ is a tree that is native to the U.K. Due to its prolofic growth it has long been harvested for fencing material.
Although deciduous the Hornbeam has dense leaf growth and retains its leaves late into the season, infact it will often hold back late into the season.
This habit makes the Hornbeam a fantastic screening tree, pleached and espalier are highly prized trees in many large gardens and country estates throughout the U.K.
The Hornbeam is fully hardy in the U.K and rarely suffers from any pests or diseases.
Container grown trees are easy to establish even when large providing they are well watered in their first Spring and Summer after planting out.
