Grow Your Own Olives: 6-Tree Bundle (3 Arbequina + 3 Maurino)

Grow your own olives at home with this premium bundle of six hardy olive trees, ideal for UK gardens. Supplied in 3 litre pots, this collection includes carefully selected varieties chosen for their ability to cross-pollinate — including Arbequina, a variety well known for its reliable fruiting and excellent pollination qualities. Planting a larger group of compatible olive trees significantly improves your chances of producing olives in the UK climate, while creating a striking Mediterranean-style feature. While fruiting will always vary depending on seasonal conditions, this bundle offers the best possible foundation for successful olive growing at home.
Here at the Norfolk Olive Tree Company we have been working together with our Tuscan nursery to grow young Olive trees that will suit the UK climate and give our clients the best chance of growing fruiting trees.

Interest in growing olives in the UK has increased significantly in recent years, with pioneering projects such as the UK’s first commercial olive grove in Lincolnshire demonstrating that olives can successfully flower and fruit in British conditions. In 2025, the first small batch of English olive oil was produced following a successful harvest, marking a major milestone for UK-grown olives. The English Olive Company planted thousands of trees in 2024, and their early results show that with the right varieties and planting approach, olive growing in the UK is becoming increasingly viable. While homegrown results will always vary, planting multiple compatible trees — like this bundle — gives you the best possible chance of enjoying olives from your own garden.

Why This Olive Tree Bundle?

Unlock the Mediterranean charm of your garden and embark on a “grow your own” fruit-tree journey with our exclusive bundle of six young olive trees. Each tree has been carefully cultivated in Tuscany, then hand-selected by us in 3 litre pots, ready to plant and establish in the UK. This bundle offers the ideal mix for both pollination and fruiting: three Arbequina trees (the prolific, self-fertile variety) and three Maurino trees (a classic Tuscan variety famed as an excellent pollinator and fruit-yield enhancer).

Variety Details – Arbequina & Maurino

  • Arbequina: Originating from Catalonia, Spain, Arbequina is a compact, adaptable cultivar that is strong in UK conditions, tolerating cooler soils and shorter seasons. It is one of the earliest to bear fruit and is widely recommended for UK growers aiming to harvest olives.
  • Maurino: A Tuscan-origin cultivar (Maurino) described by the Royal Horticultural Society as an evergreen tree with greyish-green leaves, well-suited to UK gardens. It is especially valued as a pollinator because it is largely self-sterile and benefits strongly from proximity to other fruiting olive varieties.  Together, this combination maximises the chances of fruit set — the Arbequina can fruit by itself, and the Maurino supports and enhances yield through cross-pollination.

How to Plant & Grow in the UK

  • Site & soil: Choose a sunny, sheltered location—ideally with full sun for much of the day. Plant into well-draining soil; if the ground is heavy or clay-rich, mix in grit or sharp sand. According to UK growing guides, olives must be in free-draining soil and benefit from a wall or sheltered spot.
  • Planting time: Best to plant between March and May when the risk of severe frost has passed.
  • Spacing & layout: With six trees, you might group them in a line or informal cluster in a designated fruit-area. Allow enough space for them to grow (they’ll fill out over time).
  • Watering & feeding: In the first year especially, water regularly during dry periods to help establish the roots. Feeding monthly with a balanced fertiliser helps promote healthy growth.
  • Pruning & maintenance: Prune in spring (late March to early April) to remove dead or crossing wood, maintain airflow and shape. For container-grown trees or trees in sheltered positions in the UK, protect from severe frost.
  • Harvest & use: With the right conditions and pollination, you may begin to see olives forming by years 3-5. Green olives must be brined, black olives dry-cured or stored in olive oil.

Young olive tree bundle UK

When planting your Olive grove select a site in a warm sunny position if possible in a South West facing aspect. It’s not necessary to cultivate a deep planting site as the trees as they say in Tuscany ‘need to get to know their soil’. It is however good to remove any competitive weeds from around the planting area of your trees giving them approximately a square metre of soil around them without grass or other plants, this will enable your trees to establish quickly. Mulch the surrounding area with wood chip or straw and water well for the first 2 Summers. It’s a common misconception that Olive trees don’t need water, if you want your trees to fruit then water is incredibly important install either an irrigation system to drip water daily for about 10 minutes or water your trees by hand with about 5 litres of water a week. As your trees mature over the first 2 years then you can reduce this as they will send down a root system to find enough water to satisfy their needs.

We can take orders of trees in any quantity required but advise planting at least 3 trees to start off your grove, for large orders please contact us to discuss availability and delivery.

Frequent Asked Questions

Can olive trees produce fruit in the UK?

Olive trees can produce fruit in the UK, particularly in warm, sunny conditions. However, fruiting is naturally variable from year to year depending on the weather.

Do I need more than one olive tree to get olives?

Most olive trees are self-fertile, but planting more than one tree improves pollination and increases the chances of fruit production. This bundle has been selected to help maximise those chances.

Why choose a bundle of olive trees?

Planting a group of olive trees not only creates a stronger visual impact but also improves pollination between compatible varieties, giving you the best opportunity for fruiting.

Are these olive trees suitable for UK gardens?

Yes, these are hardy olive trees that are well suited to UK gardens, whether planted in the ground or in containers on a patio.

Why is Arbequina included in this olive tree bundle?

Arbequina is a highly regarded olive variety known for its reliable fruiting and strong pollination qualities. Including Arbequina alongside other compatible olive trees helps improve cross-pollination and increases the chances of producing olives in UK growing conditions.
