Ranging in age from 60 to 200 years, these venerable trees not only embody centuries of history but also introduce a distinctive Mediterranean charm to contemporary garden designs. Hand picked by us for their architectural beauty.
The Rise of Olive Trees in Garden Design
In recent years, olive trees have surged in popularity within garden landscapes, a trend significantly influenced by prestigious events like the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. A notable example is the L’Occitane Garden, which has been featured multiple times at the show. In 2010, designer James Towillis crafted a garden that encapsulated the essence of Haute Provence, showcasing aged olive trees amidst aromatic herbs and traditional stone structures. This design aimed to awaken the senses with its bright colours , evocative scents, and the gnarled structural forms of aged olive trees.
Further cementing this trend, the 2016 L’Occitane Garden, designed by James Basson, celebrated the brands 40th anniversary by recreating the beauty of Haute Provence. The garden presented the edge of a lavender field, looking out onto the rolling hills and stunted woodland of Provence, with olive trees playing a central role in evoking the regions landscape.
