It’s a tropical and sub-tropical evergreen that is related to conifers but looks more like a palm.

What are the plant’s main characteristics?

The leaves are impressively feather-like and glossy blue/green. The leaves can grow anywhere between 3 to 7 feet long and 10 inches wide, depending on the age. The fronds grow in a beautiful circular pattern that creates an impressive rosette pattern. In terms of size, it can grow up to 10ft in height and the same in width so chose your planting place carefully.

How do I maintain my plant?

Very easily! The Cycas revoluta is a low maintenance plant that prefers bright, but indirect sun. We recommend avoiding the full sun as this can damage the foliage. If the plant is grown indoors, filtered sunlight for 4-6 hours per day is ideal. And with regards to watering, the soil should be moist and well-drained. Try to water every 2-3 days but let the soil mix dry on the surface before re-watering. The Cycas revoluta are drought tolerant but only once established, and they can also tolerate brief periods of cold.

Is Cycas revoluta poisonous?

Some parts of the sago palm are poisonous; however, the seeds contain the highest level of the toxin cycasin. It’s the Cycasin that can cause gastrointestinal irritation, mostly to pets such as dogs. So before planting your Cycas revoluta find a sunny position where it can enjoy life peacefully untouched!
