HRH the Queen, our Lilibut
Today marks a day in history when Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral aged 96. Having reigned for 70 years, we wake to a country in mourning, and King Charles the 3rd takes over. The incredible outpouring of tributes from across the world reflects just how loved our Queen really was. Here at the Norfolk Olive Tree, we look at how to commemorate such a poignant occasion…

Why do we plant commemorative trees?
Typically seen as a lasting symbol of life, a memorial tree is planted and sometimes personalised in remembrance of someone special. The planting of a tree gives family and friends a place to visit and feel close to the person who has passed away. When commemorative trees are planted the hope is that they keep the memory of that person alive, ensuring they are not forgotten. It’s a time-honoured tradition that spans hundreds of years yet holds the same significant meaning today as it always has.

Reasons to plant a memorial tree
When you plant a memorial\commemorative tree, you create a living legacy that honours their life. This is a beautiful tribute that can also be a meaningful memorial gift, as a ‘living memorial.’ And not only is it a unique and special way to remember someone, but it’s also good for the environment. They benefit local wildlife and as we know that’s something that was close to the Queen’s heart. When choosing a species of tree, you are spoilt for choice, but for us, there is only one tree that reigns supreme like our Lilibut and that’s the Olive Tree. Elegant, graceful, colourful through the seasons, and full of charm.

“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service” – HRH the Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II, thank you for being the backbone of our country and for being the greatest icon of our time. We send well wishes to the Royal family and reflect on the impact this incredible lady had on so many lives.
